In response to Idaho Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo voting against expanding the child tax credit, Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Neocchea released the following statement:
“Credits that lift families out of poverty have broad support because tax policy should never push working families into financial hardship. It’s extremely disappointing that Mike Crapo and Jim Risch failed hardworking Idaho families by voting against strengthening the child tax credit. The bipartisan deal would have lifted 88,000 Idaho children above the poverty line or significantly reduced their poverty level in the first year alone.
If Republicans gain control of Congress in November, their extreme agenda will raise taxes for middle-class families by $2,500 a year and eliminate Head Start, stripping away early childhood education for thousands of Idaho children. Idaho families deserve better. Idaho Democrats remain committed to delivering lower childcare costs, more affordable homes, and food assistance for our children at risk of going hungry.”
