Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea issued the following statement marking the start of Pride month:

“On behalf of the Idaho Democratic Party, I want to wish everyone a happy Pride. This month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and their many contributions to Idaho and our country. We also recognize that there is more work to be done and recommit to fighting for a fairer Idaho.

“Pride began as, and still is a protest. From its origins at Stonewall, there has been tremendous progress made to expand LGBTQ+ rights. But we cannot allow this hard-won progress to be undone. An onslaught of dangerous anti-LGBTQ+ legislation — targeting healthcare access, drag shows, and books — has been introduced and passed by Republican lawmakers in Idaho. These attacks and transphobic propaganda that endanger lives and threaten LGBTQ+ youth must end.

“All Idahoans deserve the freedom to love openly and live authentically. It is past time to codify equal protection on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation into the Idaho Human Rights Act. Idaho Democrats stand alongside LGBTQ+ Idahoans this Pride month and every month.”

The Idaho Democratic Party is proud to sponsor the Boise Pride Festival and CDA4Pride 2023. The Party will also have a presence at Sandpoint Pride Festival, Southeastern-Idaho Pride, and the Idaho Falls Pride Festival.
