In a state that delivered Donald Trump one of his biggest victories in 2024, his approval has now fallen below 50%
Donald Trump is losing support in one of his last remaining strongholds. According to new polling, just 49% of Idahoans approve of Trump’s job performance in a state he carried by more than 36 points in 2024.
It’s no wonder why: Since Trump took office, the average Idaho household has spent more than $3,000 in additional costs, including more than $600 on gas price hikes since Trump started his war with Iran. Republicans also let enhanced ACA tax credits expire, hiking 2026 premiums by an average of 58% and forcing 30,000 Idahoans off coverage.
In response, Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement:
“Idaho Republicans had a busy week in Washington, just not working for Idahoans. Three votes made that painfully clear. Crapo and Risch voted to keep Trump’s political slush fund alive. Then they voted against blocking public money for his ballroom. Simpson and Fulcher voted to give Trump a blank check for his reckless war of choice in Iran. Idahoans should be furious. Families are paying more for the basics while their Republican delegation defends corruption, vanity projects, and reckless power grabs. Idaho deserves leaders with the backbone to say no to Trump and yes to the people they were elected to serve.”
Discontent runs even deeper among voters Republicans need to win. Sixty-one percent of Idaho voters ages 18–34 disapprove of Trump’s job performance, along with 58% of independents, as his agenda continues to drive up costs.
For Republicans who have tied themselves to Trump at every turn, the message is unmistakable. If Trump is losing majority support in Idaho, no Republican should assume voters will give them a pass come November.
