Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement in response to Idaho GOP Chair Dorothy Moon’s attack on prominent leaders within her own party:

“I disagree with Dorothy Moon on many critical issues. I believe reporting child abuse should be mandatory, librarians should never be jailed for doing their jobs, and Idahoans should have the ability to make decisions about their own bodies without government interference. However, I wholeheartedly agree with her assessment that in Idaho, yesterday’s Republicans are today’s Democrats.

“Moon focused her attack on the prominent, well-respected Idaho Republicans who have endorsed Democrats in key races because the Republican candidates are unacceptable. However, there is a much bigger trend at work.

“With Moon at the helm, the Idaho Republican Party is now controlled by the wing of the party aligned with Janice McGeachin, Ammon Bundy, and the Idaho Freedom Foundation. As Republican politicians are pressured to embrace her extremist views or risk being ostracized, many former Republican voters are shifting to support common sense Idaho Democrats. We see this trend in action as Democrats knock on thousands of doors across the state and find Republican voters are increasingly interested in supporting Democrats.

“Moon is demanding unconditional devotion to the party, even when it puts forth extreme candidates with values that are unrecognizable to traditional Republicans. Meanwhile, she has yet to publicly declare her support for her party’s candidate for governor. Will she be voting for him or Ammon Bundy?”
