In response to Donald Trump authorizing military action in Iran without congressional approval, Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement:
“Every president is bound by the U.S. Constitution to secure congressional approval before waging war, no matter how abhorrent the enemy. Democrats in Congress are rightfully demanding answers and accountability on behalf of the American people, who are being dragged toward another open-ended war they do not support.
“My deepest concern is for the people who will be put at risk: American troops and contractors in the region, and civilians who did not choose this conflict. Idaho has thousands of active-duty servicemembers, National Guard members, and military families who live with the consequences when leaders make reckless choices.
“At home, this administration can’t deliver basic competence or accountability. Job growth is stalling, prices keep rising, and civil rights are being denied daily by brutal, violent masked ICE agents. Americans have every reason to doubt this same administration can be trusted to oversee a costly, deadly conflict in the Middle East.”
