Today, the Idaho Democratic Party announced that U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D–Mich.) will deliver a keynote speech at the Frank & Bethine Church Gala on Saturday, March 7 in Boise. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, previously announced as a keynote speaker, will also deliver remarks.

“Senator Slotkin is proof that Democrats can win the fights that matter. In Michigan, one of the toughest battlegrounds in the country, she won a razor-thin Senate race by talking plainly about rising costs, a shrinking middle class, and the need for steady leadership. That’s how you win hard races, and it’s how you govern. And when Trump went after her after she appeared in a video urging U.S. military members to refuse illegal orders, she didn’t apologize for telling the truth. She kept saying it. Idahoans respect that, especially when too many politicians choose silence when it matters most,” said Idaho Democratic Part Chair Lauren Necochea.

Senator Elissa Slotkin proudly represents Michigan in the U.S. Senate.

She has dedicated her life to protecting the country she loves. After 9/11, she joined the CIA and served three tours in Iraq alongside the U.S. military. Her time in war zones led to national security roles for whoever was Commander-in-Chief, and culminated in serving as Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Obama.

In 2017, Elissa was motivated to serve again and ran for Congress. In 2018, she flipped a Republican-held House seat for the first time in decades. She was re-elected in 2020 in a district also won by President Trump, and again in 2022 in the most expensive House race in the country. In 2024, she was elected to the Senate, becoming only the second woman to represent Michigan in the Senate and the youngest woman in the Senate Democratic caucus.

In the Senate, Elissa is fighting for what she believes is the existential threat to our country: America’s shrinking middle class. In the wake of her State of the Union Response, Elissa rolled out her Economic War Plan for America – pushing Democrats to go on offense on the economy. She has subsequently worked to provide thought leadership on national security and democracy issues in high profile speeches and in the halls of the Senate.

Now in its 32nd year, the Frank & Bethine Church Gala is the Idaho Democratic Party’s signature fundraising event, named for former U.S. Senator Frank Church and Bethine Church. Democrats from every corner of Idaho will gather for an evening of celebration and support.

Tickets for the Frank & Bethine Church Gala are sold out. Those interested in attending can join the waitlist at www.idahodems.org/fbcg.
