On the first day of the August recess, the Idaho Democratic Party launched a new online action tool to help Idahoans demand in-person town halls from their members of Congress.

Instead of facing constituents and defending their actions, Idaho’s Republican delegation is hiding away. That’s why the Idaho Democratic Party is giving voters a way to speak up. The new online tool allows Idahoans to email their members of Congress directly and demand real, public, in-person town halls before the August recess ends.

With Congress home for the month, elected officials should be meeting with the people they represent. But Reps. Mike Simpson and Russ Fulcher, along with Sens. Jim Risch and Mike Crapo, haven’t scheduled a single in-person public town hall. For many of them, it’s been years since they last faced voters directly.

The call comes as Idaho’s Republican delegation continues to back an agenda that spells economic disaster and hits working families and rural communities the hardest:

  • 3,900 Idahoans are projected to lose their jobs
  • The median household will lose over $300 from Trump’s tax changes, and over $1,600 annually when combined with his tariff agenda
  • Three rural hospitals in Idaho are at risk of closing
  • Electricity bills are projected to rise by 3.3%
  • Trump’s tariffs have already cost Idaho businesses more than $50 million
  • Nearly 73,000 Idahoans stand to lose health insurance
  • 6,200 Idaho families could lose some or all of their food assistance

The new tool gives Idahoans a quick and direct way to email their members of Congress and demand a public, in-person town hall before the recess ends.

Idaho Democratic Party Spokesperson Avery Roberts released the following statement:

“Idaho Republicans went to Washington and backed a billionaire-first budget that makes it harder for working people to provide for their families. They slashed health care, cut food assistance, and put rural hospitals at risk, betraying the very people who sent them there. They’ll sponsor bills to rename buildings after Melania Trump, but they won’t face a room full of constituents. If they can vote to hurt Idaho families, they need to explain it in person. And if they refuse, they don’t belong in office.”

Idahoans can take action today by visiting idahodems.org/augustrecess to email their members of Congress and demand accountability.
