On the 60th Anniversary of the creation of the Voting Rights Act, Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement:
“Sixty years ago, the Voting Rights Act tore down the walls that kept millions from the ballot box. As we mark this anniversary, Texas Democrats are risking it all to stop a Republican gerrymandering scheme to rig the electoral map in their favor. Idaho Republicans may not be redrawing maps, but their attacks on student IDs, mail-in voting, and registration show the same fear of the people holding them accountable. Idaho Democrats are pushing back just like our colleagues in Texas, because we believe democracy works best when more people participate, not fewer. We’re honoring the Voting Rights Act the best way we know how, by fighting like hell to protect and strengthen it.”
