Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement on the passing of former U.S. Representative Richard Stallings:

“Idaho lost one of its true public servants with the passing of Richard Stallings. He never forgot who he was fighting for, and he never stopped showing up for the people of Idaho. From his years in the classroom at Ricks College to his four terms representing Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District, Richard dedicated his life to service. He believed in listening first, leading with integrity, and fighting for the people who too often went unheard in Washington.

“After leaving office, Richard continued to serve in new ways. He never stopped traveling the state’s backroads, meeting with local Democrats, and mentoring new leaders. Richard served as chair of the Idaho Democratic Party from 2005 to 2007. Troubled by the direction of the current administration and Idaho’s congressional delegation, he joined former Congressman Larry LaRocco earlier this year on a statewide town hall tour, listening to thousands of Idahoans across the state.

“Richard reminded us that politics at its best is about people, not power. It is about understanding our neighbors’ struggles and standing up for them. His legacy endures in the leaders he inspired, the communities he strengthened, and the countless Idahoans who saw in him what public service should look like: humble, principled, and tireless in pursuit of the common good. Our hearts are with his family and all who loved him.”
