Today, Governor Brad Little appointed Annie Henderson Haws to the Idaho House of Representatives, filling the District 16, Seat B vacancy. She will serve the remainder of the term through December 2026.
“Annie reflects what public service should be,” said House Democratic Leader Ilana Rubel. “She’s grounded in her community, driven by purpose, and brings real legal and policy expertise to the table. She’s a strong addition to the Democratic caucus and a powerful advocate for working families.”
A Boise resident and accomplished attorney, Henderson Haws has spent her career expanding access to justice, defending constitutional rights, and advancing equity across Idaho. From clerking for federal judges to protecting over 43,000 acres of tribal land from environmental degradation with the Nez Perce Tribe, her work is focused on solving real problems and standing up for enduring values.
“I’m honored to represent District 16 and excited to get to work for the people of this community,” said Henderson Haws. “We need to work with our peers in the Legislature to focus on what really matters. That means investing fully in our kids, supporting working people, and protecting the Idaho we believe in, not the one being shaped by special interests.”
She enters the Legislature with enthusiastic support from her District 16 colleagues.
“I’m so excited to welcome Annie to the District 16 team. She will be an incredible asset to our district and the Statehouse. I’m thrilled to do the work of Idaho alongside her,” said Senator Ali Rabe.
“As a powerhouse attorney, native Idahoan, and bridge-builder, Annie is going to bring so much to the Legislature. We are lucky to have her on the team,” said Representative Soñia Galaviz.
About Annie Henderson Haws
Annie Henderson Haws is a lifelong advocate, experienced attorney, and proud Idahoan. She brings a deep commitment to public service shaped by years of dedicated work in the legal field and community leadership.
Her legal background includes clerking for federal judges, advancing access-to-justice initiatives in Idaho, and increasing pathways for diverse judicial candidates. As an attorney, her professional experience spans from clerking for two federal judges to fighting extremism in Idaho, and serving as lead counsel for Idahoans United for Women and Families—ensuring the constitutional right of Idaho citizens to pass legislation by ballot initiative remains robust and meaningful.
In addition to her legal work, Henderson Haws serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Idaho College of Law, mentoring the next generation of legal professionals.
Her passion for public service began early, shaped by her family’s advocacy for her brother Oliver, who lived with Muscular Dystrophy. Those experiences helped ground her belief that government should break down barriers—not create them.
Annie lives in Boise’s Winstead Park neighborhood with her husband Mo and their two dogs, Stanley and Jac. In their free time, they enjoy gathering around a great meal with friends and family, skiing, canoeing, and exploring Idaho’s public lands.
