After months of Democrats demanding a vote, the House of Representatives finally voted on the release of the Epstein files.

Pressure mounted after Democrats on the House Oversight Committee delivered on their promise and released never-before-seen emails from Jeffrey Epstein. They revealed that Trump “spent hours at [Epstein’s] house” with one of Epstein’s victims and that Trump “of course,” “knew about the girls.”The emails suggest that Trump was lying when he denied knowing about Epstein’s heinous crimes and told Americans that he “had no idea.

Last week, Speaker Johnson finally swore in Representative Adelita Grijalva to Congress after delaying her swearing-in by 50 days — the longest-ever delay to seat a duly elected member. Rep. Grijalva became the 218th signature needed to force a vote.

Donald Trump caved to public pressure after waging a campaign to bury this issue — including personally calling members to change their vote.

In response, Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement:

“Today marks an important step toward long-overdue justice for the survivors of Epstein’s horrific crimes and accountability for those who enabled him. For months, Donald Trump and his Republican allies fought to keep these files buried. That includes Mike Simpson and Russ Fulcher, who refused to sign the discharge petition that forced this vote. They had every chance to stand with survivors and with the American people. Instead, they chose to shield Trump, even as new evidence raised serious questions about his involvement with and knowledge of Epstein’s crimes. Trump only reversed course when it became clear the vote would succeed without him and ordered House Republicans to fall in line. Now, as Speaker Johnson equivocates and pushes to redact the names of powerful people in the Epstein files, Idahoans and Americans across the country must continue to demand the full truth. Every document, every name, and every connection needs to come out. Survivors deserve nothing less than complete transparency and the accountability they have been denied for far too long.”
