On the 90th Anniversary of Social Security, Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement:
“I am proud that Democrats led the charge 90 years ago to pass the Social Security Act. It was built on a promise that in America, a lifetime of hard work would be rewarded with dignity and security in retirement. That promise matters more than ever today, with over 350,000 Idahoans relying on the Social Security benefits they have earned.
“Republicans joined Democrats to give Social Security decades of bipartisan support, but now the GOP is walking away from our seniors. The four Republicans who represent Idaho in Congress — Mike Simpson, Mike Crapo, Jim Risch, and Russ Fulcher — have backed plans to cut benefits and privatize the program, abandoning the Idaho values of keeping our word. Idahoans deserve representatives in Washington who will honor their commitments and fight for the people they serve. Idaho Democrats will always defend this promise, protect Social Security, and fight to keep it strong for future generations.”
