From the grocery store to the gas pump, a new report from the U.S. Senate Joint Economic Committee found that Idaho families have lost $864 in purchasing power since Donald Trump took office. In addition to skyrocketing groceries and rent, the cost of energy bills in Idaho has increased by 13.1%.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump is building a gilded ballroom, hosting Great Gatsby parties, and pocketing billions of dollars for his family’s businesses.
Idahoans continue to struggle with a tanking economy while Trump, his family, and his billionaire backers get wealthier by the minute.
As the holidays approach, Idaho Republicans have no plan to lower costs. In fact, their only actions have been to double healthcare premiums, try to halt food assistance to kids and families, and suggest that Americans just buy fewer presents.
In response to this new report, Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement:
“Idaho families are getting hit with higher costs month after month, and they are tired of being told everything is fine. Since Donald Trump took office, Idahoans have lost $864 to inflation and face the highest unemployment in four years. Families feel it every time they check out at the grocery store or open their utility bill. Trump keeps talking about how great the economy is for him, and it shows. He is building ballrooms and entertaining billionaires while Idaho families rethink basic purchases. And Idaho Republicans are backing him every step of the way. Idahoans deserve leaders who will take this affordability crisis seriously, confront rising costs head on, and fight for a fair shot. Idaho Democrats are doing that work every day because working families cannot afford more of the same.”
