Elections are moments of truth. They reveal what voters value and what they’re ready to leave behind. At this moment, voters are rejecting the chaos, corruption, and cruelty that define Trump’s Republican Party and choosing leaders who put people and real solutions first.
In Virginia, Democrats flipped over a dozen Republican districts and retook the governor’s office by focusing on stability and lower costs. In New Jersey, Democrats won with a message of affordability and opportunity. In California, voters passed Proposition 50 to stop GOP efforts to rig congressional elections. In Pennsylvania, voters stood up for fairness in the courts, and in Georgia, Democrats broke a twenty-year drought in statewide offices.
Even in Mississippi, a traditionally deep-red state, Democrats broke the Republican supermajority in the state senate, proving that change is possible anywhere.
Across the country, Democrats outperformed expectations, winning over independents, suburban voters, and working people. Turnout was strong, especially among young voters, and Democrats made gains almost everywhere.
This election should be a wake-up call to Republican politicians, in Washington and here in Idaho, who have stood silent while the Trump regime creates chaos and drives our country toward recession. His reckless tariff wars are hurting farmers and small businesses while driving up prices on everyday necessities. His policies have sent health care premiums soaring, straining family budgets and putting coverage out of reach for many. His shutdown has jeopardized paychecks, delayed benefits, and pushed working Americans to the brink. His masked, unidentified ICE forces are dragging people into unmarked vans, zip-tying children, and firing rubber bullets at peaceful protesters and clergy.
In a metaphor come to life, Trump even tore down a wing of the People’s House. Yet most Republican politicians are still following him off the cliff. Knowing their policies are deeply unpopular and harmful, they’ve turned to redrawing maps and rigging rules instead of tackling the problems voters actually care about.
Meanwhile, Idaho Democrats are doing the work to undo the damage and protect the people who make this state run. We believe every Idahoan who works hard should be able to care for their family, afford a roof over their head, and see a doctor. That means tackling the costs of groceries, utilities, and childcare, while also investing in public education so that the next generation can prosper. We know a thriving Main Street requires investments in everyday Idahoans, not more kickbacks to the billionaires.
When people ask whether Idaho can change, the answer is yes. Mississippi just proved it. A so-called “unbreakable” Republican supermajority fell because voters were ready for something better.
Momentum is building. Idaho Democrats are ready to deliver that future, one built for everyone who calls this state home.
Onward,

Lauren Necochea
Idaho Democratic Party Chair
