Idahoans have a leader who shares our values and who will get work done in Congress: James Piotrowski.

Candidate Announcement for the 1st Congressional District

Boise—James Piotrowski, of Boise, has announced his candidacy for Idaho’s first Congressional District. His campaign rolled out a campaign website today and invites everyone in Idaho to join a movement to rebuild Idaho’s economy, national reputation, and reestablish our state as a leader when it comes to solving problems.

Piotrowski will bring common sense ideas for growing Idaho’s economy, strengthening our communities, unsaddling massive student debt from our next generation of leaders, and stopping the misguided political effort to sell off our public lands.

“I have watched for five years as our 1st Congressional District has gone without real representation in Congress and, like many of you, I’ve been frustrated,” Piotrowski said. “Frankly, the final straw was when Raul Labrador decided to make it his sole mission to endanger Idaho’s public lands and destroy this singular legacy that was passed on to us and that we should pass on to future generations.”

Piotrowski, 48, and his wife Sandra have been married for 22 years. They have two children, Maddie, 14, a student in the Boise School District and Marshall, 18, a college student. Growing up the son of an Army officer, Piotrowski’s family traveled the nation and world. He and Sandy both fell in love with the Rocky Mountains and settled in Idaho, finally having a real place to call “home,” because of the people, the abundant public lands, and the opportunity to raise their children in a culture that values hard work, honesty, personal responsibility and a strong sense of community.

Piotrowski has never been a politician. He’s been a problem-solver. His successful law practice Herzfeld & Piotrowski, specializes in representing workers and building bridges between workers and employers. When it’s necessary, he will fight for workers in the courts. For instance, Piotrowski took on Walmart when they stole wages from their employees. He won several cases against that company, and many more against other dishonest employers.

Piotrowski has also been active volunteering for his community. As an avid fisherman, he has volunteered his time, expertise, and energy in conservation programs. He has gotten his hands dirty planting trees and moving rocks in stream restoration programs. He has also been an advocate for people who are unable to advocate for themselves, volunteering to help people with disabilities, and representing them in court when needed.

Piotrowski, and his many supporters, believe that Idaho is not well-represented in Congress right now. His opponent has established a reputation for blocking any and all action in the Congress, simply for the sake of politics. That style of service amounts to “self-service.” Right now, Idaho is harmed by a congressman who insists on marginalizing us all for the sake of his personal obstructionist brand of political rhetoric. This is a fact that U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson has been very clear about. For Idahoans to earn better wages and for businesses to grow and thrive, we must not have our congressmen standing in the way and creating problems rather than solutions.
