CALDWELL RUNOFF ELECTION: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Caldwell will have a runoff election for the first time in the city’s history. Here’s everything you need to know about voting in this unprecedented election:

Do you live in the city of Caldwell? You can only vote in this election if you live within city limits.

Q: WHAT IS A RUNOFF?

A: If no candidate gets a majority (50% of the vote plus one), Caldwell City Code calls for a runoff election between the two candidates who received the most votes within 30 days of the Election. Whichever candidate receives the majority of votes in the runoff election wins the seat.

Q: WHEN IS THE RUNOFF?

A: December 3, 2019

Q: WHEN ARE THE POLLS OPEN?

A: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Q: WHEN AND WHERE IS EARLY VOTING?

A: Early voting will start Nov. 18 through Nov. 29 with the exception of Nov. 28 as it is Thanksgiving.

Q: DO I VOTE AT MY NORMAL POLLING PLACE? 

A: The Canyon County Clerk has said the only voting location will be the Canyon County Elections Office, Polling, 1102 E Chicago St. Caldwell, ID 83605.

Q: CAN I STILL VOTE ABSENTEE?

A: Anyone who is eligible for an absentee ballot and who received one in November, will be receiving one for the runoff election. The first mailing of absentee ballots is anticipated to be Friday, Nov. 15.

Q: WHAT FORMS DO I NEED TO FILL OUT TO REQUEST AN ABSENTEE BALLOT?

A: If voters are not currently signed up for an absentee ballot and would like to vote absentee, you have two options:

Write on a piece of paper your name, the address at which you are registered, where you would like your ballot to be mailed and your signature. Mail it, drop it off, or email it to the Canyon County Elections Office, 1102 E Chicago St. Caldwell, ID 83605, .

2. Fill out this form: https://sos.idaho.gov/elect/Clerk/Forms/2018_Absentee%20Request%20Form_Portrait_fillable.pdf and mark “Emergency election to be held 12/3” and mail it, drop it off, or email it.

You can request an absentee ballot until Nov. 22, 2019 at 5 p.m.

Q: WHEN DO I NEED TO TURN IN MY ABSENTEE BALLOT?

A: Absentee ballots must be handed in at the Canyon County Elections Office, 1102 E Chicago St. Caldwell, ID 83605, by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Q: CAN I REGISTER NOW? 

A: The last day to pre-register is Friday, Nov. 8.

Q: CAN I STILL REGISTER AT THE POLLS?

A: New voters will still be able to register at the polls on Dec. 3, 2019.

Q: I DIDN’T VOTE ON NOVEMBER 5. CAN I STILL VOTE ON DECEMBER 3?

A: Yes, you can still vote in a runoff even if you didn’t vote on Election Day.
