Precincts are the smallest political units we have, each precinct reports to one polling place. Democratic precinct captains (PC) are elected by the citizens of their precinct and are charged with connecting the people in their precinct to the Democratic Party and the Party to the people. Each of our 44 counties has a County Central Committee (CCC). The County Central Committee is composed of all the Precinct Captains located inside the county along with an Executive Committee. The Executive Committee normally consists of the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, State Committeeman, and State Committeewoman. Each CCC is responsible for recruiting and supporting candidates for elected offices in their county.
Many county organizations hold monthly meetings. These meetings are scheduled for the purpose of sharing information about district, county and state party matters as well as current issues and candidate recruitment.
Legislative District Organizations
Each of our 35 legislative districts elects two members to the Idaho House of Representatives and one member to the Idaho Senate for two-year terms. Democratic Officials
The Legislative District Central Committee consists of the PC’s from each precinct in the legislative district, the legislative district Chair, and any other officers elected by the PC’s. Legislative District Central Committees are charged with recruiting and supporting legislative candidates from their districts.
Some legislative districts may contain more than one county, while some counties have multiple legislative districts so they may choose to have separate Central Committee meetings or meet with their County Central Committee.
Idaho State Democratic Central Committee
The Idaho State Democratic Central Committee (SCC) oversees the State Party and sets forth the Democratic tone for the state. This committee consists of the Chair, State Committeeman and State Committeewoman of each county Central Committee and the Chair of each legislative district. The State Central Committee meets twice a year.
Idaho State Democratic Executive Committee
The Idaho State Democratic Executive Committee is elected by and acts on behalf of the state Central Committee. The Executive Committee carries out policies and programs of the national and state Democratic Parties and makes recommendations to the state Central Committee on budgetary and policy matters.
Democratic National Committee
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is composed of members elected from each state. Idaho has one National Committeeman and Committeewoman, who are elected at the state convention to serve four-year terms. The IDP Chair and Vice Chair are also members of the DNC. The DNC is presided over by the chairperson and other officers elected by its members.
The DNC sets the Democratic agenda for the nation. They support the President when he or she is a Democrat and lead the opposition when Republicans control the White House.
