The 2012 Legislative Session is half way over and GOP legislators have proven they are tone deaf to the people of Idaho and care nothing about doing the right thing. Instead of working on meaningful ethics reform, job creation or funding for vital public services, they have focused on political games and self-serving legislation. Unfortunately, this is just part of the culture that they have created in 20 years of unchecked power.
If Idaho GOP legislators were serious about serving the interests of the public they would focus on the priorities of The People; reforming their culture of arrogance and entitlement, setting the stage for prosperity through job creation legislation, crafting a State-based health care exchange, proper funding for education and safety net services and allowing the public a voice by granting hearings to bills that receive a high level of public interest.
“There is something very wrong with a culture that promotes Bill Sali’s self-serving license plate bill before legislation that would improve the lives of our people,” said Shelley Landry Executive Director of the Idaho Democratic Party.
Throughout the first half of the session we have seen many examples of poor legislation given time while legislation that might serve the people of Idaho is passed up.
Ms. Landry, “The list of self-serving and pointless bills just continues to grow as the legislative session time wastes away. Idaho GOP Legislators had a chance to show the people of Idaho they were serious about meaningful ethics reform, getting people back to work, and hearing legislation that would create a fair playing field for all Idahoans and they blew it – again.”
The Idaho Legislature typically and thankfully disbands near the end of March. That leaves Legislators only six weeks left to pass legislation that might begin to restore the faith of Idahoans that have lost confidence in a state government and state legislature that are run for the benefit of special interests instead of the interests of the people. Let’s hope they get to work!
