In a race largely ignored by the media, the Democratic candidate Bruce Robinett is widely seen as the most competent by far. Because his opponent, Donna Jones, refused to debate on statewide television, voters were deprived of the opportunity to compare the two.
In its endorsement of Bruce Robinett, the Idaho Statesman said “The controller is Idaho’s elected accountant, and with 15 years of experience in corporate finance, Bruce Robinett is the best fit for this job.”
“To be frank, we don’t believe incumbent Donna Jones has grown into the job. In an editorial board interview, she deferred a number of questions to an aide…Jones was also on the wrong side of a big Land Board vote this year, opposing the use of $22 million of endowment reserves for public schools. Robinett said he favored the shift.”
