Bruce Robinett Management Accountant to run for Idaho State Controller

Bruce Robinett, Idaho native and management accountant for Hewlett Packard Corporation, announced his candidacy for Idaho’s State Controller today. Former State Controller J.D. Williams endorsed Robinett’s bid.

“I am very concerned for the economic health of our state,” Robinett said. “This is not the time to sit on the sidelines and let politics overshadow the need for competent and transparent management of our public assets. Therefore, I am offering my services to the people of Idaho as State Controller and I am honored to have the support of J.D. Williams.”

“Under Idaho’s Constitution, the State Controller must play a professional and independent role so that the governor, the legislature and, most importantly, the public has objective information on spending alternatives. The citizens of Idaho deserve more transparency in how our government manages their money so that they can hold public officials accountable. The incumbent State Controller has been virtually invisible in the current budget crisis. This hurts our ability to make the best decisions for the people of Idaho,” Robinett said.

J.D. Williams, who served as State Controller from 1989 to 2003, said that “the people of Idaho expect their chief fiscal officer to put professionalism ahead of partisan pressure. I am very impressed with Robinett’s exceptional skills and experience working with multi-billion dollar financial systems in the private sector. This is exactly the kind of State Controller we need in the public sector,” Williams said. “While Bruce has never been partisan in his many years of financial management, I am pleased he has decided to run on the Democratic ticket so that voters have a choice in the general election.”

Robinett was born in eastern Idaho and graduated from high school in Shelley. His family has been part of Idaho more than 100 years and his extended family still ranches in the Lost River Valley. Robinett received his undergraduate degree from Idaho State University and his accounting degree and a Masters of Business Administration from Boise State University. Robinett is also a Certified Management Accountant.

Since moving to the Treasure Valley in 1993, Robinett has worked at both St. Luke’s and St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Centers in various accounting and finance rolls. He also worked for Micron and is currently employed at Hewlett-Packard, a multi-billion dollar international corporation with operations in Boise and around the globe. Robinett also teaches both financial and managerial accounting courses at Boise State University and serves on BSU’s College of Business Advisory Council.

Robinett is married to Tracey (Moore) Robinett of Nampa for almost 15 years and are the proud parents of two children ages 12 and 10.
